What is the academic year of the school?
The Vasant Valley School Academic Year is from January to December.
The school year consists of three terms
Term I: January to April
Term 2: July to September
Term 3: October to December
What are the School Timings?
The day at Vasant Valley is long - it starts at 7:25 a.m. and ends at 3:15 p.m.
School timings for the month of January are from 9.00 a.m. to 3.00 p.m.
What is the Daily Schedule?
The day begins with a short assembly - a prayer, brief silence and a rousing song - that fills the entire Vasant Valley family with a sense of oneness and verve. Then all children disperse to their classes for a few minutes with the class teacher who helps the class settle down for the day.There are 8 periods for the senior school, 9 for the junior school and three recesses. The recesses in the junior school are a little longer than the in the senior school. The nursery children sleep for an hour after lunch.

What is the Flexible Timings System of the school?
Students of Senior School are allowed to go home early on specified days for justifiable reasons.
Class XII
Students will have the option of going home from lunchtime onwards on weekdays except Fridays.
What are the meals that children eat at school?
Children are expected to eat two meals in school. One should be in lieu of breakfast (this is brought in by all the children) and the second is lunch. Lunch is available in school on payment and is optional. All packed meals are to be sent in the morning along with the child. Please make it a point to send substantial and nourishing meals. Junk food is not allowed. Children must carry only water in their bottles. Any other drink is likely to spoil. Aerated drinks, juices and packaged instant foods may not be brought in. Please send a large napkin with the meals.
What is expected of the children during breaks?
First Break: The first break is for breakfast, visit to the toilet and drinking water. The children are not allowed to go and play as this tempts them to either eat hurriedly or not eat enough. Second Break: The second break is the time when the children are free to use their time in playing, visiting the library or catching up on previous work. Lunch Break: The children are not allowed to go to play during the first 15 minutes. Teachers are on field supervision duty during this time.
What is the procedure for sending children home?
(For Bus Children)
The buses leave the school only after a staff member checks that each child who ought to be on the bus has actually got on to the bus. There is a roster of parent duties for each bus. A parent accompanies each bus from the first stop to the last stop each way. Parents, whose children use the school bus, on a rotation basis, carry out this duty. If your child travels by bus, do not leave the child unescorted at the bus stop in the mornings. Please be at the bus stop to pick up your child in the afternoon otherwise the parent on duty on the bus will take the child to his/her home and you will have to pick up the child from there. What is the procedure for sending children home?
(For children who do not go by bus)
Children who will either walk home or go home by their own transport are individually handed over to the family members who have come to pick them up. These children must be picked up by 3.50 pm. After 4 pm the teacher on duty will take the child to her home by taxi. Parents will then be expected to pick up the child from the teacher's residence and reimburse the taxi fare.
My child will not be travelling by her usual mode of transport only for a day or two, what should I do?
Any change in the child's routine mode of returning home must be notified to the class teacher in writing.
What should I do if my child is absent?
If your child is absent for more than two days, please inform the school by phone or in writing about the reason of absence. You must also contact the class teacher for follow up of the work your child has missed. A doctor's certificate must be sent in when the child rejoins the school after extended illness.
What are Open House Days?
To familiarise yourself with what is happening in various classes, you can visit the school briefly. The open house is only meant for parents who wish observe and is not a forum for discussions about your child with the teachers. Junior School: every Wednesday from 2.30 to 3.00 p.m. Senior School: 2nd and 4th Wednesday from 8.20 to 9.00 a.m.
What happens in Review Meetings?
These meetings are of 1 ½ hour duration in the Senior School. Teachers will be available in specified classrooms and you may discuss the progress of your child briefly during this meeting.
What should I do if I want a detailed discussion about my child with her teachers?
In addition if you wish to discuss your child's progress in detail with any specific subject teacher, you may make an appointment through the class teacher at a time suitable to both of you.
What is the procedure for collecting reports?
Parents will be given consolidated reports at the end of each term. Parents must personally collect these from the school office. Reports will not be given to the children. The reports are to be signed and sent back to the class teachers at the earliest. The monthly reports will be sent directly to the parents by post or by courier.
When do I need to check my child's diary?
Routine letters and notices will be sent regularly through the children's diaries. Parents are expected to check the diaries everyday and acknowledge such letters by counter signing them.
What is the school uniform?
The uniform blends with architecture of the building as the colour beige and maroon echo the sandstone and the red colour of the school. The boys from Nursery to class 10 wear shorts, shirts and a maroon belt. Class 11 and 12 students wear trousers. The girls wear skirts and shirts (with a belt) till class 6 when they graduate to Salwar Kameezes. All children wear regulation beige socks and black non leather shoes. There is no 'winter uniform'. Maroon sweaters are worn over the regular school uniform in winter. Senior school children are expected to wear T-shirts in their house colors and shorts for Physical Education. All these are available in the school uniform shop.
What is the school's dress code for students?
Children should be neatly dressed in full uniform. Their hair must be neat. Girls may use black or maroon hair bands/ribbons to tie their hair. Boys, need to have a neat short haircut (no mushroom cuts etc.). Children must wear black, rubber soled, shoes of running material that allows air circulation to keep the feet dry through the school day. Garments, shoes and all other articles MUST be neatly marked with the child's full name. Children must not use expensive or fancy shoes, bags, pencils or lunch boxes. Children from class III may wear simple non-digital watches. Girls may wear small, unobtrusive earrings. No other jewellery is worn in school.
How do I get books and stationery for my child?
Books and stationery for the entire year are to be bought at the beginning of the Academic Year from the school bookshop. Some stationery is sent directly to the Art room (paints, Cartridge paper), the classroom (ruled sheets, ink) and the computer room (floppy disks), while the others are handed over to the students. Additional books and stationery can be bought from the bookshop whenever required. The bookshop is open during school hours.
Does my child have to carry all books home every day?
Students keep their books and notebooks in their personal lockers in the classroom. Other than lunch boxes and the school diary, there is barely any load in the school bag. Only those books and notebooks required for homework or test revision go home
What do the children write with?
The children of Class 5 onwards use fountain pens. Ball pens are not allowed for school use. Children are not allowed to use expensive pens.
What is the procedure for payment of fees?
All school dues should be paid by cheque or draft in the name of "VASANT VALLEY SCHOOL" and not in cash. Fees are to be paid in advance for quarter and the last date for payment of fees for each quarter is as follows:
1st quarter (January - March): 30th December
2nd quarter (April-June): 30th March
3rd quarter (July-September): 30th June
4th quarter (October-December): 30th September
Can I send the Fee cheques with my child?
All financial transactions must be between the parents and the school office. No cheques or cash should be sent to school through children. Children are not allowed to bring any money to school.
