Biotechnology Workshop
for Class 10 held on 30th April and 1st May 2008
In the Biotechnology Workshop held on Wednesday, 30th April and Thursday, 1st May, students of Class 10 A, B and C worked on three interesting aspects of biotechnology. In the first part of the program, they learnt about the structure of DNA through a presentation and film entitled- Secret of Life. The second part of the program was a hands-on session in which they understood the principles underlying Alec Jefferys's finger printing technique that is used to identify people from their DNA analysis. As part of this, the made agarose gels, loaded samples of Victim DNA and Suspect DNA and then analysed the results. In the third session of the workshop, they did crude extraction of DNA from fruits like banana and papaya by the spooling technique.
