Fools and Princes

‘The Ghosts of Shakespeare Festival, Delhi, 2013’ is an annual festival conducted by The Arshinagar Project that looks at Shakespearean world from contemporary perspectives. As part of this festival, Arka Mukhopadhyaya from The Arshinagar Project conducted a workshop called 'Fools and Princes' in the school on April 23, 2013 with a group of twenty students selected from Classes 10 and 11. The workshop highlighted the importance of a sense of space, silence and self as students first walked all around the room in silence filling the empty spaces, then slowly acknowledged one another’s space and presence with a smile or a brush of a hand.

The workshop culminated in a presentation made by the students based on Julius Caesar and The Merchant of Venice on April 25, 2013. This was followed by a solo performance entitled ‘Museum of a Million Hamlets’ by theatre artist, Parnab Mukherjee who focused on Hamlet moments – moments of dilemma, of decision-making, of taking a stand, “to be or not to be” - in our everyday lives. Students of Classes 9 and 10 were the audience and found the experience enjoyable as well as thought provoking. As young members of the society, it inspired them to think about what is happening around them and how they need to engage with it.

Yamuna Water Testing - Class 9
Wednesday, 13th February, 2013

The water of the river Yamuna was tested by class 9 and it was found to be unfit for domestic consumption on the following criteria- colour, odour, pH and chloride content. The bank of the river was found to be very dirty with plastic bags, lots of weeds growing etc. The soil was very wet, so many tests could not be perfomed as the children could not sit for long. The remaining tests would be performed in the chemistry laboratory with the river water. Students also interacted with the local inhabitants staying on the river bank.
