Format, Rules and Regulations for the Multimedia Contest 2010

What is the theme of the presentation for the Vasant Valley Inter School Multimedia Competition, 2010?

2)      Who can participate in the competition?

  • The competition is open to school students from Class IX and above.
  • Each school can send a maximum of one team. The team will comprise of a maximum of 4 students and one accompanying teacher.

3)      What is the last date for confirming your participation in the contest?

  • Teams must confirm their participation for the contest by 30th July 2010.

4)      What do teams have to send/ bring with them?

  • Teams will bring their completed presentations on 20th August 2010.
  • They will also bring all supporting images, animations, movies, sound clips and .
  • fla
    ’s. This is very important and is required for the technical interview.
  • All files must be brought on a CD or Flash Disk.
  • Teams do not need to send anything before the competition date.

5)      What is the format of the presentation?

  • The duration of the presentation must be a maximum of 6 minutes. This includes a one-minute optional live introduction or conclusion by the team members. Presentations that overshoot the time limit will be stopped as soon as 6 minutes are over.
  • The presentations can be made using any Multimedia software.
  • If you have any doubts on whether your file formats will be supported by the Vasant Valley School, please check with the school. The standards are Microsoft Office 2007, Adobe Flash CS3/CS4.
  • The presentation should be the original work of the team members. It must be in English and can comprise of text, graphics, animation and sound. The source from where information was obtained must be mentioned in the presentation.
  • There will be no live speaking while the presentation is running (other than the introduction/conclusion which can happen either before the presentation starts or after it concludes). Commentary should be incorporated in the sound track of the presentation itself.
  • The presentations must run on their own – team members will not be allowed to manually play the presentation

6)      What is the format of the competition?

·         Teams will be divided into 2-3 Pools

·         3-4 teams will be chosen from each pool to go on to the final round

·         Teams in each Pool will make their presentation to the judges. Teams will also go through a technical interview after the presentation

·         However good their presentation may be, teams must score a minimum of 50% in the technical interview in order to qualify for the final round.

·         8-9 teams will be selected through this process for the final round

7)      How will the competition be judged?

·         In the first round the presentation will be judged on the basis of the content of the presentation, storyline, use of multimedia and aesthetics and creativity.

·         A technical judge will also interview each group on how they made the presentation, and will ask the group to recreate any particular animation/scene used in the presentation. Teams will use their images, movies, sound clips etc. to show the judge how they created that scene or animation.

·         The final round will be judged on storyline, use of multimedia and aesthetics and creativity

·         There will be a panel of three judges for the final round. Vasant Valley School reserves the right to appoint the judges whose decision will be final.

8)      What is the schedule on the day of the competition?

·         8:30 AM: Registration

·         8:30 – 9:30 AM: Teams can check their presentation to see if all is working correctly. They must also submit their supporting files during this period

·         9:30 AM – 12:00 Noon: The First round including the technical interviews

·         12:00 Noon – 12:30 PM: Lunch

·         12:30 PM – 2:00 PM: The Final Round

·         2:30 PM – Winners will be announced
