The 17th Vasant Valley School Inter-School Debate for the India Today Cup – 2014

This year, Vasant Valley School celebrates its twenty fifth year and has seen the scope of the debate increase considerably to include international schools such as LACAS from Pakistan, Rato Bangala from Nepal and Gems Modern Academy from Dubai and from all across the country besides several schools from the National Capital Region.

There were a total of 21 schools participating with participants from across the country including students from Sishya School, Chennai,Mallya Aditi International School, Bangalore, The Scindia School, Gwalior, Sherwood School, Nainital, Bishop Cotton School, Shimla, Vivek High School, Chandigarh, Doon School, Dehradun and Welham Boys School, Dehradun as well as 10 schools from Delhi.

The unique feature of the debate was the debating camp held after each round of the debate, wherein each participant was given constructive feedback. The debate followed the Parliamentary format. After three long preliminary rounds held over the first two days as well as the quarterfinals, the third day saw the semi final round as well as the final round. The final round took place between LACAS and Bishop Cotton School where the motion before the house was “This House Believes in the ideal of free movement across international boundaries.” In the end, LACAS emerged victorious, achieving a three time consecutive win.
